A "Dusty" Story
Dusty was created by Kenner in 1974.  She was created, I think to be a doll that little girls, that were athletic, could marvel over.  During that time in the 70's, women in sports were a big thing and most idolized women tennis players like Billie Jean King and Dorothy Hamill in skating.  Dusty was not only a champion tennis player, but also a pro at golf, volleyball, and softball.  She packed a lot of power in that 11 1/2" plastic frame of hers!

Though Dusty's doll-span was little more that a few years, Kenner managed to bring to life, a wonderful little doll.  Of course, Dusty was made of high Kenner quality and wonderful Kenner details.  She had friends that were named "Skye" and "Cliff".   There were many well done fashions for her and she even had her own horse, Cabana, and Gymnastics set!  She also had a Bubblin' Bath set that was used later for the Bionic Woman doll line (1976).

Dusty is touted as a doll that is too masculine, but if you really take note to her line of fashions - she really does have a feminine side.  Sure, she was muscular and sporty, but what female athlete isn't?  Dusty could do what most other dolls could not and that is what I think makes her so collectible in today's market.  Once you can put aside all the prejudice with the Dusty line, you will see a great doll that is truly interesting with a wonderful line of collectibles to offer.
